Ingredients:
What is COLD-fX®?
COLD-fX® is a patented highly purified natural product obtained
from roots of North American ginseng. It is comprised of poly-furanosylpyranosyl-
saccharides. Through CVTs proprietary, patented ChemBioPrint process,
COLD-fX® undergoes vigorous testing to ensure that every batch has
the same chemical identity and biological activity. Each capsule contains
200 mg of dried extract, CVT-E002, which has been shown in laboratory
and clinical studies to strengthen our immune system and has demonstrated
efficacy and safety in the prevention and relief of cold and flu infections.
The patent for CVTE002 covers its unique chemical composition, manufacturing
method, and indications for therapeutic use.
What are oligosaccharides and polysaccharides?
Oligosaccharides and polysaccharides are types of complex carbohydrates.
They are very large molecules composed of different combinations of
monosaccharide units (sugars). They are not simply the equivalent of
consuming other complex carbohydrates such as starch, or simple sugars.
This is because the complex shape and arrangement of the polyand oligo-
saccharides means the molecules are able to specifically induce unique
biochemical effects which enhance the immune system. CVT-E002, the active
ingredient in COLD-fX®, is comprised specifically of poly-furanosyl-pyranosyl-saccharides.
How is COLD-fX® different from other ginseng products?
Most ginseng products on the market are Asian ginseng (Panax ginseng
sp.). COLD-fX® is a highly purified extract derived from North American
ginseng (Panax quinquefolius sp.) which has a very different chemical
and biological profile than Asian ginseng. Because COLD-fX® is comprised
of specific active viral-targeted, immune-enhancing molecules, oligo-
and poly- saccharides, it doesnt exhibit the other effects typically
associated with ginseng products such as enhanced vitality, mental alertness
and mood improvements. Although COLD-fX® is a natural extract of
North American ginseng, its highly purified and precise chemical composition
makes comparison with ginseng in general, inappropriate.
Comparing COLD-fX® with raw ginseng roots is like comparing acetylsalicylic
acid (the active ingredient in Aspirin) with willow tree bark (acetylsalicylic
acid was originally isolated from willow tree bark)
Patented Process:What is ChemBioPrint?
CVTs patented, precise ChemBioPrint Technology isolates and standardizes
complex molecules obtained from natural sources. Due to the ChemBioPrint
extraction process the result allows only the safe and active ingredients
to be utilized. The ChemBioPrint process ensures that each capsule consistently
contains the same amount of active ingredient. In addition, each batch
is tested for biological effectiveness. The quality assurance of this
precise manufacturing leads to measurable chemical and biological consistency
from batch to batch.
How does it work?
A number of studies, including both experimental and clinical, have
shown that COLD-fX® stimulates the immune system. These effects
were found on both the innate and the acquired immune system and both
cell-mediated and humoral (antibody)-mediated immunity have been shown
to be enhanced.
What evidence do you have to support its efficacy and safety?
To date, 7 well-controlled clinical trials involving a diverse population
of up to 641 subjects, have been carried out on COLD-fX®. In all
these trials, COLD-fX® has been found to be highly effective in
the prevention as well as relief of cold and flu infections. It was
also found to be safe and well-tolerated for prolonged use.
Can it be used for the prevention of cold and flu infections?
COLD-fX® can be used both for the prevention as well as relief of
cold and flu infections.
What dose should I follow for the prevention, and for the relief of
colds?
COLD-fX® can be taken preventatively on a long-term basis at two
capsules per day. An acute dosing regimen of COLD-fX® may also be
followed. COLD-fX® is most noticeably effective if taken at the
first onset of symptoms, although it may also be used if taken at a
later stage of infection.
Are there any side effects?
No adverse effects of COLD-fX® are observed in laboratory studies
when given at 500 times higher than the recommended dose at one time
and 25 times higher than the recommended dose for 30 days. In clinical
studies and for usage in the general population, adverse effects have
also not been associated with the recommended acute dosing regimen and
the preventative chronic dosing regimen. Although there are no known
interactions with drugs, herbs, or disease conditions, individuals with
a serious autoimmune disorder or other serious medical conditions should
consult a physician before taking COLD-fX®.
Will COLD-fX® overstimulate my immune system?
Laboratory studies have indicated that COLD-fX® does not overstimulate
the immune system, but rather induces more moderate changes in the immune
system which reflect healthy levels of immune system components such
as cytokines and natural killer (NK) cells. Clinical studies have also
demonstrated that COLD-fX® consumption is not associated with overstimulation
of the immune system.
What about interactions with other drugs such as NSAIDs, antibiotics,
lipid-lowering medications, oral contraceptives, blood pressure medications,
antidepressants, beta blockers and synthroid?
There are no known interactions of COLD-fX® with other medications.
Laboratory studies have demonstrated no effect of COLD-fX® on the
major drug-metabolizing enzymes of the liver. Additionally, the active
ingredients of COLD-fX®, oligo- and poly- saccharides, are very
large molecules. This means they are unlikely to enter the bloodstream
and instead exert immune-stimulating effects in the gastrointestinal
tract, although this remains to be confirmed in scientific studies. Thus,COLDfX
® is thought to exhibit a low likelihood of interaction with other
drugs. However, since specific clinical trials have not yet been conducted
to investigate this interaction potential, it is advised that individuals
taking other medications consult a health-care practitioner before using
COLD-fX®.
I have an autoimmune disorder. Would it be safe for me to take COLD-fX®?
COLD-fX® has been demonstrated safe and effective in healthy individuals.
Clinical trials have not been conducted specifically in populations
with autoimmune diseases. Individuals with arthritis were permitted
to participate in our FDA-regulated trials in seniors and the frequency
of adverse events was not different in the COLD-fX® versus the placebo
(control) group. For other more serious autoimmune conditions such as
lupus and multiple sclerosis, we recommend consulting a physician before
taking COLD-fX®. Our laboratory studies suggest that COLD-fX®
is unlikely to interact with other medications, including drugs used
to treat autoimmune conditions, but to be safe, please speak to a health
care provider if you are taking these medications before consuming COLD-fX®.
I have diabetes. Would it be safe for me to take COLD-fX®?
COLD-fX® has been demonstrated safe and effective in healthy individuals.
Clinical trials have not been conducted specifically in diabetic populations.
Individuals with diabetes were permitted to participate in our FDAregulated
trials in seniors; blood glucose was not affected by COLD-fX® intake
and the frequency of adverse events was not different in the COLD-fX®
versus the placebo (control) group. However, to ensure that COLD-fX®
is safe to consume in your specific situation,we recommend consulting
a physician and monitoring of general health and glucose levels when
taking COLD-fX®. Our laboratory studies suggest that COLD-fX®
is unlikely to interact with other medications, including antidiabetic
drugs, but to be safe, please speak to a health care provider if you
are taking these medications before consuming COLD-fX®.
I have high blood pressure. Would it be safe for me to take COLD-fX®?
COLD-fX® has been demonstrated safe and effective in healthy individuals.
Clinical trials have not been conducted specifically in populations
with high blood pressure. Individuals with high blood pressure were
permitted to participate in our FDA-regulated trials in seniors; although
blood pressure was not specifically assessed, there were no adverse events
related to blood pressure regulation associated with COLD-fX® intake. However,
to ensure that COLD-fX® is safe to consume in your specific situation,we
recommend consulting a physician and monitoring of general health and
blood pressure when taking COLD-fX. Our laboratory studies suggest that
COLD-fX® is unlikely to interact with other medications, including
antihypertensive drugs, but to be safe, please speak to a health care
provider if you are taking these medications before consuming COLD-fX®.
I am on blood thinners and I have been advised not to take ginseng products.
Would it be safe for me to take COLD-fX®?
High doses of some forms of ginseng which are high in ginsenosides have
been shown to affect the metabolism and effect of blood thinners such
as coumadin (warfarin). Although COLD-fX® is composed of molecules
(oligosaccharides and polysaccharides) which are not thought to cause
drug interactions, and laboratory and clinical studies have indicated
that the likelihood of a drug interaction with COLD-fX® is greatly
reduced, to be safe, individuals taking coumadin are advised to avoid
consumption of COLD-fX®.
Can I take COLD-fX® if I am pregnant or nursing?
Since no studies have yet been carried out on use of COLD-fX® during
pregnancy or nursing, it is recommended that you consult a physician
before consuming COLD-fX®.
Can children under 12 use COLD-fX®?
No studies have yet been done to assess the efficacy or safety of COLD-fX®
use in a pediatric population.CV Technologies is hoping to have these
types of clinical studies performed with COLD-fX® in the near future.
